Auricular/Ear Acupuncture
In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), acupuncture is based on the theory that your health depends on the flow of qi (energy) in your body. A blocked or disrupted flow of qi can have a negative effect on your physical and mental health. This is where acupuncture comes in and restores the flow of qi by resolving the disruptions by targeting points found throughout your body, including your ears.
Auricular acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Therapy according to a system of channels and meridians. It involves embedding therapy on-ear points,
· Auricular acupoint seeds pressure (as a continuing stimulation onto the particular ear point),
· Bloodletting at auricular points (to release toxin and heat).
· Electroacupuncture can also be used on-ear points when treating certain conditions, such as: addiction, insomnia, migraine/headache, calm the emotions, hypertension, etc.
The theory here is the ear is one of several microsystems throughout the human body; a self-contained system within the whole system. In Oriental philosophy, there is a systematic correspondence of each part to the whole. Micro-acupuncture is the expression of the entire body’s vital qi energy within each major anatomical region. In that sense, the ear would contain a distribution of acupuncture points that correspond to the rest of the body.
There are 3 embryonic tissues from gestation all located in ear, as well as 4 cranial nerves going into the ears, i.e.
1) Glossopharyngeal (9th),
2) Greater Auricular,
3) Vagus (10th),
4) Trigeminal (5th).
· Smaller associations to Facial nerve (7th), and
· Lesser and Greater Occipital nerves.
· Several vascular innervations.
