Cosmetic Acupuncture
FAQ
1. Cosmetic Acupuncture
Although acupuncture should never be painful, there are more needles involved with cosmetic acupuncture than traditional acupuncture. If you are scared/nervous of needles, the treatment probably isn’t the best choice for you. Although it’s not painful, the needles can sometimes feel pinching and uncomfortable.
We could try to use the finest, thin needles to minimize any discomfort that may rise. If you don’t like it, we can switch to do facial cupping and guasha to achieve lifting and clearing complexion that will beneficial for antiaging as well.
2. Are there side effects?
Because cosmetic acupuncture involves an increased volume of applied needles and facial cupping applies suction, occasionally there bruising may arise. Although it is uncommon, it does happen on very rare occasions.
3. How many sessions do I need?
Although everyone’s face responds to treatments at a different pace, we aim for you to see results as soon as after your first appointment. In general cases, visible changes may occur by the 5th or 6th sessions. Reaching your aesthetic goals will usually require a series of approximately 10-12 sessions. It is highly recommended to perform 2 sessions /week for 6 weeks or 3 sessions/week for 4 weeks.
Having said that, we work with patients on setting up a treatment frequency and pace that they can manage. Some patients may prefer a series of regular treatments, while others may find that they benefit more from a “tune-up”. Although we will recommend a treatment frequency protocol that is ideal, do what works best for your schedule and budget.
4. Can I get a physical issue addressed AND cosmetic acupuncture in the same session?
No, we can only address cosmetic issues during a cosmetic acupuncture appointment because there isn’t sufficient time to address both. Aches and pains and other health conditions must be addressed during a separate clinical acupuncture appointment. Pick 1-2 cosmetic goals per appointment.
5. Can I get cosmetic acupuncture if I’ve had Botox, injectables or other cosmetic procedures?
No. You will need to hold off for 8 weeks before we can begin. Cosmetic Acupuncture/facial cupping can interfere with other recent procedures.
6. How should I prepare for my treatment?
I) Remove make-up
Please ensure that all make-up is removed. We need to work with a “clean-slate” face in order to make swabbing and disinfection accessible and also making sure we have a clear view without make-up getting in the way of a therapist’s work. Feel free to get here a few minutes early to remove make-up and use some time afterwards to reapply after your session.
II) Bring shorts
Please bring a pair of shorts as we will be needling points on the body.
7. Why should I try Cosmetic Acupuncture over other conventional methods?
This Ancient Chinese beauty secret is now becoming a popular holistic alternative to plastic surgery, Botox injections, and pharmaceuticals. Our facial rejuvenation acupuncture involves bringing fresh oxygenated blood to the face. It has been proven to stimulate collagen production. Elastin & Collagen are the protein found in skin cells, which decrease production as we age. If you have dry skin, your face will age faster than people with oily skin.
8. Could Acupuncture help lighten or erase scars?
Yes, to recent and newly acquired scars. Acupuncture needling helps to bring qi and blood to the insertion points and creates a kind of trauma in that localized area. So, our body will kick start the healing response right away. Our body’s defensive system will send white blood cells to clear up the inflammation, and the rich oxygenated blood will help to repair and rebuild the new tissue fibres in a better and nicer way. It will take up a number of sessions depending on individual body response, the severity of the scar(s), and the body’s natural healing ability. Some may see visible changes in a couple of sessions but others may require a longer time.
