Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a stress reduction and relaxation technique that originates from Japan. It is a healing treatment where natural healing vibrations are transmitted through the hands of a Reiki practitioner and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and promotes the body’s ability to heal itself. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stressed. And if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
I recommend Reiki for treating stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and feelings of helplessness.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. You do not have to be a believer in order to learn and use Reiki.
During a Reiki treatment, it would feel as if a wonderful glowing radiance is flowing through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person (the body, mind, and spirit) and creates many beneficial effects that include: relaxation, feelings of peace, security, and well-being.
How Does Reiki work?
Reiki is a natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been shown to be effective in alleviating symptoms of illness and has many beneficial effects. Furthermore, Reiki works in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic techniques.
At its core, Reiki shifts your body’s stress response from a “fight-or-flight” state (sympathetic) to a “relax-or-digest” restful state (parasympathetic) during and immediately after sessions. Once your body is no longer stressed, it can better heal itself.
What are the potential health benefits of Reiki?
According to some published studies, Reiki is linked to a range of physical and emotional health benefits, including: better sleep, improved mood, and pain relief. Research suggests that Reiki helps the body return to a state of relaxation, which allows it to better heal from damage brought on by stress, injury, or disease. There’s evidence that Reiki, used as a complementary therapy with conventional or mainstream medical care, can help people recover after surgery and manage symptoms of even serious conditions such as cancer or AIDS. Keep in mind, however, that Reiki is mostly accepted as a complementary therapy by mainstream medicine and is intended to be used alongside standard medical care — not in place of it.
