Upper Cross Back Syndrome
What is Kyphosis?
Kyphosis is a spinal disorder in which an excessive curve of the spine results in an abnormal rounding of the upper back. Recent years, it becomes most common postural dysfunction by using electronic device; cellphone reading or texting; improper sitting when working on the computer; improper standing to work through long period of time; aging with loss of muscle strength to hold the joints & bones; other cases like heavy breasted woman; tall people and body builders etc...
The condition is developed through time known as round back or – in the case of a severe cure – as hunchback and sometimes buffalo hump may also slowly be developed especially for people with overweight. Kyphosis can occur at any age but it is common during adolescence nowadays.
Kyphosis Causes A Few Problems Through Time
Tight (Facilitated) Upper Trapezius & Levator Scapulae
Weak (Inhibited) Rhomboids, Lower Trapezisu & Serratus Anterior
Tight (Facilitate) chest muscles, like Pectoralis (Major & Minor) and Stemocleidomastoid (SCM)
Tight chest muscles are compressed lungs and ribcage, that will develop into shallow breathing and insufficient oxygen intake with every breath you take.
Weak (Inhibited) Deep Neck Flexors, such as Longs Colli and Longus Capitus
Overstretched upper back muscles become weaken.
The condition could be treated early if young age kids or teenagers when the bone plate has not been closed yet; tight and overstretched muscles that will weaken the ability to hold the bone in place that could be treated by therapeutic massage and exercises (yoga, stretching and strengthen muscles regularly). Occasionally, people may prefer to wear a Back Brace OR to use Pilates / Yoga and Exercise Hunchback Posture Corrector to further assist the correction of the Spine. In severe cases, however, kyphosis can be painful, cause significant spinal deformity, and lead to breathing problems. Patients with severe condition may need surgery to help reduce the excessive spinal curve and improve their symptoms. Therefore, treating early stage of kyphosis to stop it goes worse is the better solution.
